After the
Deutsche Reichsbahn initially procured various prototype types of
railcar trailers for passenger traffic on branch lines, the
development of standard railcar trailers began in 1934. As part of
this procurement program, the sidecar was delivered in 1937 by the
Talbot wagon factory in Aachen with the factory number 80 247. After
the end of the war, it remained in the fleet of the Deutsche
Bundesbahn, which assigned it to the Bww Nürnberg and used it on
branch lines in the Nuremberg area. After leaving the DB equipment
park on 13.04.1960, it was sold to the Lam – Kötzing local railway in
the Bavarian Forest and was given the new running number VB 01. After
the merger of the Lam – Kötzing local railway with the Regentalbahn on
01.01.1973, it initially continued to run with the running number VB
01 on the Regentalbahn. In 1977 it was given the new running number VB
31.After the wagon expired on 31.03.1981, the Delmenhorst –
Harpstedter Eisenbahnfreunde e.V. (DHEF) acquired the vehicle and used
it in museum railway traffic until 1995. At the end of 2008, the
company was sold to Eisenbahn – Tradition e.V. and transferred to
Lengerich. In contrast to our other passenger car fleet, we do not
intend to refurbish the sidecar as a DB vehicle, but in the style of
the non-federally owned railways (NE). It is therefore to be given the
typical red-beige paint job of the NE railways of the 1950s.
We want to
present the long-standing use of the Teutoburg Forest Railway (TWE).
It is planned to start the restoration in the next few years. The
interior views of an identical sidecar were made available to us by
the friendly "Dampfeisenbahn Fränkische Schweiz" (DFS) in
Ebermannstadt and are intended to reflect the planned condition after
the refurbishment.
