The railcar
was delivered with the running number VT 802 by the Wegmann company in
Kassel in 1927 to the Deutsche Reichsbahn, as a railcar with 32 seats
4th class and 14 seats 3rd class. The entire series consisted of only
four railcars with the running numbers VT 801 to VT 804. In 1934, the
railcars were converted into 3. Great vehicles with now 30 seats.Due
to the war, the vehicles were parked to save fossil fuels. The
railcars VT 801 and VT 802 remained in the western occupation zones
after the end of the war and were used with the new running numbers VT
70 900 and VT 70 901 from 1948 by the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) in
Wuppertal and Nuremberg. Since there were only two vehicles of this
type in the inventory, it was retired in 1953 as a "splinter class"
and sold to the Württembergische Eisenbahn Gesellschaft (WEG).Initially
unchanged in the vehicle part, they were used on the WEG route
Vaihingen – Enzvaihingen with the running numbers VT 03 and VT 04. In
order to create a packing room for the then still numerous express and
general cargo shipments, the smaller seat compartment was converted
into a packing room in 1959 at the WEG workshop in Neuffen. The two
outer revolving doors of the small compartment were replaced by
folding doors and the floor was given metal planking. In this
condition, the VT 03 remained in service until the end of the 1970s on
its main line Vaihingen – Enzvaihingen, until more modern vehicles
were available to the WEG.The Teutoburger Wald-Eisenbahn (TWE), which
also belonged to the then German Railway Company (DEG), took over the
vehicle and carried out a thorough overhaul of the VT 03 between 1982
and 1984. From 1985 onwards, the railcar was mainly used as a towing
railcar in freight traffic, but also in special passenger traffic.
Among other things, it is noteworthy that the railcar was converted
into a test vehicle for radio remote control at TWE. This prototype
system for locomotive radio remote control is still reliably in
service after more than 25 years.
At the
beginning of September 2009, we were able to take over the vehicle
from TWE with compulsory inspection. In January 2017, the extensive
work on VT 03 was successfully completed. Since then, this valuable
historic vehicle has been available again for special trips.
In the meantime, the railcar also has an Indusi system, which makes it
possible to operate on Deutsche Bahn AG lines. It is very popular for
charter trips, as we can also make offers for smaller budgets. |
